| There is currently unrest following the disputed Presidential elections in February. Violent clashes have resulted. Check the FCO website for updates before you travel. Avoid demonstrations and large gatherings of people. There are border disputes with Azerbaijan. Avoid this area. Petty crime is common, it is advisable to leave valuables and travel documentation in a secure place. Ensure you carry a photocopy of your passport with you at all times. |
| Vaccinations & Health Alerts |
| The medical facilities in Armenia are fairly poor. It is recommended that you vaccinate against Hep A, Polio and Typhoid. Malaria is present in some areas. |

| Armenia is a landlocked and mountainous country. The climate is hot and dry between June and September. Winters are extremely cold with heavy snow. |

| Local Customs/Laws |
| Outside of the capital people are conservative. Respect customs and traditions and dress modestly to avoid unwanted attention. Homosexuality is not accepted. Do not photograph military sites or government buildings. |
| Getting Around |
| Public transport is generally overcrowded and poorly maintained. Be extra vigilant on trains and keep an eye on your luggage. Watch out for dangerous drivers, they are everywhere. |

| The Armenian Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas on 7 January. Womens Day on 8 March, Motherhood and Beauty Day on 7 April, Genocide Memorial Day on 24 April, Victory and Peace Day on 9 May, First Republic Day on 28 May, Constitution Day on 5 July, Independence Day on 21 September and Earthquake Memorial Day on 7 December. Also an Autumn Festival is hosted in Hzradan in October. |

| A visa is required and can be easily obtained from the airport on arrival. If travelling by train from Tibilisi however, you must present a visa before boarding. |
