| This is a relatively safe place to visit but instances of robbery and other street crimes do occur. Safeguard your valuables and do not carry large amounts of cash or jewellery on you. Keep a copy of the photo page of your passport. Avoid isolated areas, including beaches after dark. |
| Vaccinations & Health Alerts |
| It is recommended that you vaccinate against Hep A and Typhoid. You must have proof of a Yellow Fever vaccination if you have recently travelled from an infected country. There is a high HIV/AIDS rate. Dengue Fever is endemic. |

| The climate is hot and sub-tropical but cooler in the mountains. The main rainy season falls between June and October and coincides with the hurricane season. |

| Local Customs/Laws |
| Dominica is a religious, conservative society with traditional values. Keep swim wear to the beach and poolside only. It is an offence for anyone to dress in camouflage clothing. Ask permission before photographing local people. |

| There are 2 international airports. Roads are well maintained, car hire is available, buses and taxis are reliable. |
| Public Holidays/Festivals |
| Christian holidays for 2010 include: Lent which commences on 17 February, Easter from 2-5 April, Ascension Day on 16 May, Whitsun (Pentecost) on 23 May, Corpus Christi on 6 June, Assumption on 15 August and Christmas Day on 25 December. Carnival in the week before Lent, Labour Day on 5 May, Independence Day on 3 November and Community Service Day on 4 November. The Friday before Independence Day is Creole Day which is a festival of local folklore, dancing, food and music. |

| Visas are not required for stays of up to 6 months. You must have 6 months validity on your passport and an onward or return ticket. |

| There is no British Embassy in Dominica. Passport replacements will take several days but the British Honorary Consul in Dominica (Tel: (767) 255 2410/2401, Mobile (767) 275 2690) will advise you on how to do this.
