Indecent behaviour is not tolerated. Smoking is prohibited in public. High standards of public behaviour is expected or heavy fines and prison sentences may be awarded.
Getting Around
It is easy to get between the islands and the mainland and from island to island with ferries. Level of services may tail off towards the winter. Good roads, rail, and internal flights available. Hire cars, mopeds and quad bikes are all available but beware, driving on the windy roads is an experience.
Public Holidays/Festivals
Dates for 2010 are: New Year on 1 January, Epiphany on 6 January, Role Reversal Day on 8 January, Carnival of Patras which commences on 1 January and runs through to 28 February. The Grand Parade is on the final Sunday during this period. Also Annunciation & the War of Independence Celebrations on 25 March, Easter Carnival which falls between 2-5 April, Labour Day on 1 May, Falling Asleep of the Virgin Mary on 15 August, Ochi on 28 October and Christmas from 25-26 December. There are numerous festivals and plays held during the summer months. Athens has a festival of music and dance. There is also a wine festival in early September in Dafni near Athens to celebrate the wine harvest.
