Although there is a low risk of crime you should still take precautions to safeguard your valuables. Do not walk alone in isolated areas.
Vaccinations & Health Alerts
Medical facilites are fairly good. You can use your EHIC to get emergency health treatment but expect to pay for it upfront. It is recommended that you vaccinate against Hep A and Typhoid. Dengue Fever is present. Avoid being bitten by mosquitoes to reduce the risk of catching this disease.

Martinique is one of the southerly Caribbean islands. The weather is warm all year. The rainy season coincides with the hurricane season which falls between July to November.

As this is still a French dependency, some french customs and traditions are evident.
Getting Around
Taxis are readily available at the airport but are expensive. Car hire is available and can be picked up at the airport. Buses or taxi collectifs as they are known locally, is the cheapest method of getting about. There is no direct bus service from the airport. Regular ferries (vedettes ) run between the main resort area of Pointe du Bout and Fort-de-France.
