| Mexico has a high crime rate generally and care should be taken of your personal safety and the safety of your valuables and documentation. Take sensible precautions not to draw attention to yourself. Only carry or exchange small amounts of cash at any one time, use cash machines indoors if possible. Crime in the border areas is often related to drug smuggling and illegal border crossing, take extra care in these areas. Visit the FCO site before travelling to check their current travel advice. |
| Vaccinations & Health Alerts |
| It is recommended that you vaccinate against Hep A, Typhoid and carry proof of Yellow Fever if travelling from an infected country. Take precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes as Malaria and Dengue Fever is present in some low lying, rural areas. |

| The north is desert like and the south is mountainous jungle. The mountainous areas are warm for much of the year whilst the Pacific coast has a tropical climate. The hurricane season runs from June to November and affects both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. |

| Dress is very informal in and around the beach resorts. Drugs offences carry lengthy prison sentences. |
| Getting Around |
| Mexico has a good internal air and rail network. Car hire is available but be warned not all the roads are in a good state of repair and driving standards are poor. Keep alert on public transport especially in Mexico city where pick pocketing and assaults occur regularly. There is a great bus service around the Cancun area. Lone female travellers should take extra precautions with their safety. Exercise caution around the border area with Guatemala. |
