Travel Advice/Warnings
The stability of Nicaragua cannot be guaranteed, check with the FCO before travel. Keep valuables and travel documents safe and carry a photocopy of your passport with you. Take sensible precautions, do not draw attention to yourself and use only authorised money changers. Do not resist a robbery as some criminals carry weapons.
Vaccinations & Health Alerts
It is recommended that you vaccinate against Hep A, Typhoid and carry proof of Yellow Fever if travelling from an infected country. Take measures to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes as Malaria and Dengue Fever are present. It is not advisable to drink locally produced alcohol.

Temperatures are hot all year but cooler in the northern mountains. The wet season runs from April to October and the hurricane season from June to November.

Getting Around
Travel is challenging as Nicaragua has no rail service and only a small number of the roads are of a decent standard. Air travel is possible. Travel is more difficult during the wetter months. Driving standards are poor and armed bandits operate in the country. Use only authorised taxis and negotiate the fare first, never share with a stranger.

Visa Requirements
Nicaragua is part of the Central America Border Control Agreement (CA-4).  Under the terms of this agreement, British tourists may travel within any of the CA-4 countries (Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala) for a period of up to 90 days, without completing entry and exit formalities at Border Immigration checkpoints. This period begins at the first point of entry into any of the CA-4 countries. Fines are applied for travellers who exceed this 90 day limit, although you may apply for an extension of up to 30 days before the 90 days limit expires. You must have 6 months validity remaining on your passport and an onward ticket.
