| The climate is Mediterranean on the coast and much cooler in the mountains. The Alps mountain range covers one third of Slovenia and accounts for their harsh winters. |

| Getting Around |
| Ljubljana airport is 26kms from Ljubljana itself. Car hire is possible but be aware that heavy on the spot fines are issued for traffic offences. Check your motor insurance covers Slovenia. A "Vignette" system was introduced for motoroway travel on 1 July 2008. It costs £35 and is valid for the rest of 2008. This is compulsory if you wish to use the motorways and can be purchased at petrol stations or near the Slovene border in neighbouring countries. |
