Local Customs/Laws
The importation of drugs including Khat carries a heavy penalty. As there are no restrictions on the opening hours of shops, they are generally open on a Sunday. Most Swedes take all of July off on holiday.
Getting Around
Travelling around Sweden is very easy due to the excellent road, rail, air and ferry networks. They even work during the winter months. Distances between the towns can be longer than you think so prepare for the journey and take extra care during the winter. Dipped headlights are compulsory all year.
Public Holidays/Festivals
Festivals focus on the change of seasons with the highlight of the year being Midsummer's Eve on the Friday between the 20-26 June. They also celebrate Shrove Tuesday on 16 February, Day of Annunciation (Waffle Day) on 25 March, Easter falls between 2-5 April 10 and has trick or treat similarities, Walpurgis Night (Valbourg) on 30 April, May Day on 1 May, Ascension on 16 May, National Day on 6 June, All Saints Day on 1 November and Christmas on 25 December. Midsummer is also celebrated all over the country.
