Getting Around
There are no problems getting about Switzerland, all modes of transport are excellent and reliable. Links to the rest of mainland Europe are excellent. Radar detectors are prohibited. You will need to purchase a vignette to be able to drive in Switzerland. These can be purchased from border crossing points, service stations or some shops. Winter driving is challenging, ensure you have a suitably equipped vehicle.
Public Holidays/Festivals
Not all the holidays in Switzerland are celebrated by the entire country, the following are celebrated by the majority: Dates for 2010 are: New Year on 1 January, Easter from 2-5 April, May Day on 1 May, Ascension on 16 May, Pentecost on 23 May, Swiss National Day on 1 August, Christmas Day on 25 December. Other main holidays for the Catholic regions are; Assumption of Mary on 15 August, All Saints Day on 1 November and the Immaculate Conception on 8 December.
