| The climate is temperate continental with a Mediterranean climate along the Crimea Sea. Winters vary from cool along the Black Sea coast to very cold inland. Summers are warm, expect a little rain all year. |

| Do not photograph military or official buildings or establishments. There is a zero tolerance to drink driving. Penalties for drugs related offences are harsh. Carry a photocopy of your passport for ID purposes. |
| Getting Around |
| Travel is not easy in the Ukraine, fuel shortages affect flights and railways are slow. Do not travel alone on the sleeper train and ensure your compartment is secure. Travel by road on either a bus or self drive vehicle is not recommended. You should avoid driving outside urban areas. Driving standards are poor and roads are of variable quality. The police do not have the right to confiscate your driving license or other documentation. If requested to pay an on the spot fine you should decline and insist you go to the police station. |
